The requirement

A client investing in a new large-scale tea plantation base in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka needed a reliable perimeter fencing system before the plantation entered full operation.

The site included newly developed tea-growing areas, internal service roads, storage zones, irrigation equipment and staff access points. Because this was a new investment project, the client wanted the boundary protection finished early, before planting, equipment movement and daily farm management became more complex.

The client's main concern was protecting the plantation before losses started to happen. Without a proper perimeter, livestock from nearby villages could enter the planting area, people could cut across the land, and materials or equipment stored on site were harder to control.

What we supplied

We supplied approximately 15,000 m of galvanized chain link fencing for large plantation boundary protection.

The system used 2.4 m high chain link mesh, round galvanized steel posts and continuous top rails to improve line stability. Angled arms and barbed wire were added at the top to reduce climbing and improve security around storage and equipment areas.

To support the installation schedule, the fencing was supplied in complete sets, including mesh rolls, posts, top rails, angled arms, barbed wire, tension wire, clamps and fittings. This helped the local contractor install section by section without wasting time matching accessories on site.

How it went

For the long-distance plantation boundary, chain link fencing was a practical choice. It was faster to install than welded panels, easier to adapt to uneven ground, and more cost-effective for a 10 km+ agricultural perimeter.

The galvanized finish was selected for the humid outdoor environment and frequent rain, giving the site a durable, low-maintenance perimeter system suitable for daily plantation use.

Result

The full fencing package of approximately 15 km was delivered within 25 days, and the main boundary installation was completed in about 18 days by the local contractor.

The new tea plantation base gained a clear, protected boundary before full operation started. Livestock entry was reduced, site access became easier to manage, and young planting areas received better protection during the early development stage.
